About Us

Welcome to SHIM

The School of Health Information Management which was formerly School of Medical Records was established in 1976. Prior to the establishment of the school, few of the pioneers of the medical records department were sponsored abroad for training and after training, they came back and took over the headship of the department and later established the school to train more Health Information Practitioners.

Why Choose us

Presently, the school has gone beyond the original conception of its founders. It has not only made phenomenal impact in the training of health information managers in Nigeria but has over the years acquired international reputation and currently, the school has become the preferred choice as far as the training of this group of health care professional is concerned. The school programme has recently undergone tremendous restructuring and redesigning, so as to provide the students with the knowledge and skill to assist in planning, collating, organizing, disseminating, monitoring and managing vital information required at the local, state and federal levels in order to ensure effective and comprehensive national health care delivery.

After several years of attempts by the various University College Hospital, Ibadan management, resource inspection visitation was carried out by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the institution and full accreditation to the Institution to offer two (2) streams of thirty (30) students each of National Diploma (ND) & Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme in Health Information Management was granted by the board.

On notification of this accreditation by National Board of Technical Education, (NBTE), the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) began regularization of students of the school for mobilization for youth service.  After the regularization and mobilization of the students, school admission has since been conducted by JAMB as the name of the School of Health Information Management, University College Hospital, Ibadan has been included in JAMB Brochure.  All the eligible graduates have been mobilized for the National Youth Service (NYSC) as opposed to the exclusion certificate that was previously collected by graduates from NYSC to introduce them into the labour market.  This is a great stride of achievement of the present UCH Management.
